On IDAHOBIT (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia) – and every day – RNH is proud to be an inclusive employer.
With a zero-tolerance policy on bullying and harassment, RNH is proud to have a diverse, 200-strong workforce which includes members of the LGBTQIA+ community and Allies alike.
Celebrating the 1990 date in which the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from the classification of diseases, the 2025 IDAHOBIT theme is “The power of communities”.
So, why is IDAHOBIT still important in 2025?:
- LGBTQIA+ people are less likely to be out at work than in 2022 – with 68% of LGBTQIA+ employees not “out” to everyone at work.
- 2 in 3 LGBTQIA+ youth experience abuse due to their identity.
- 35% of LGBTQIA+ Australians have experienced verbal abuse in the past 12 months.
- LGBTQIA+ people experience disproportionately higher rates of mental health conditions and suicidal ideation, compared to their heterosexual and cisgender peers.
To be an LGBTQIA+ Ally you can:
- Research: A good starting point is understanding the history and challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ people, which will help you work out how you can be more supportive.
- Listen.
- Call out inappropriate behaviour.
- Respect people’s pronouns.
- Use gender neutral language.
