By now, our communities will be aware of the huge amount of work being done around the aged care reforms.
But what exactly is the purpose of the reforms and how is RNH working to ensure compliance with the same?
In 2018 a Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety was established to:
– look into the quality of aged care services in Australia.
– look into whether those services were meeting the needs of the community.
– look into how they could be improved in the future.
Following this investigation the Aged Care and Other Legislation Amendment (Royal Commission Response) Act 2022, following consultation with an Expert Advisory Committee that was established in 2023 to review the 148 recommendations the Royal Commission final report detailed, released a Health Services Plan.
A major piece of work for all aged care providers, the once-in-a-generation aged care reforms aim to:
– Strengthen Aged Care Quality Standards.
– Strengthen governance.
– Introduce new restrictive practices consent arrangements.
– Introduce a Code of Conduct for aged care providers, their workers, and governing persons.
– Improve accountability and transparency in the aged care sector.
Aimed at making positive changes to aged care in Australia now, and into the future, through strengthening aged care standards, while delivering the highest quality, person-centred care for our older people, where and when they need it, RNH is taking the reforms seriously and is working to review and amend its existing policies and procedures to comply with the new reforms that will take effect on July 1.
More details about the reforms will be released over the coming weeks to keep our communities informed.
