RNH invites the Hopetoun community to suggest ideas for a replacement commemorative garden or statue as it prepares to remove palm trees placed at the old hospital entrance.
Maintenance Services Manager Heath McGrath said the palm trees, planted to mark the opening of the new hospital in 2008, drop fronds that are causing structural damage to the roof while the root systems are causing damage to the building foundations.
These issues will continue for the entirety of the trees’ lifespan.
“Repairs to the building are costly, which has led to the decision to remove the trees completely,” Heath said.
“We invite the community to suggest alternatives for the area as we would like to put something back which is more suitable for the area,” he said.
RNH plans to remove the trees around the end of this month.
Anyone with suggestions can contact Hopetoun Director of Nursing Philip Vuong, Hopetoun Nurse Unit Manager Alison Fischer, or call the Hopetoun campus on 5083 2000.
