RNH Intake Clinician Sarah Botheras will put her endurance to the test when she competes in an ultra-marathon on March 1.
After suffering an ankle injury, Sarah got back into running in December 2023 and set herself a goal of completing a half marathon (21.1 kms).
Achieving this in February 2024, Sarah went on to complete her first marathon (42.2 kms) in April the same year.
Left wondering what she could do to challenge herself further, Sarah figured “why not go to the top?” and signed up to complete the 101 kilometre ultra-marathon in Tasmania.
Entertaining herself on her 50-60km training runs, which often start as early as 3.30am and are sometimes before a full day of work, Sarah listens to music and podcasts and looks for markers in the distance.
She is also well supported by her family who often meet her along the way to cheer her on, with Sarah’s sister often joining her for the last 10-15kms of the run.
Looking forward to the 24-hour ultra-marathon which takes competitors across farmland, beaches, and up mountains, Sarah hopes to complete her run in under 16 hours.
Good luck, Sarah – what an amazing goal!!
