Dementia Care

HomeServicesAged CareDementia Care

Rural Northwest Health recognises the special needs of people living with Dementia. We have a 15-bed secure dementia unit at the Warracknabeal Campus called Wattle Crescent. However, we refer to it as a ‘Memory Support Unit’ because that is exactly what we do, support the residents’ memory.

Wellbeing

Our Dementia Wellbeing services offer supportive care for people who have memory loss and their carers, including helping them navigate care and access services and supports. If you or someone close to you have memory loss and require some additional support in navigating the often-complex health and social supports available, contact the team for a chat.

We also have a group social activity program called Dawn, which is a great program to build confidence in living a quality life with memory loss. Dementia Wellbeing services can be provided in your own home or at one of our Campuses in Warracknabeal, Hopetoun, or Beulah.

Wattle Crescent

Services within Wattle Crescent are provided to all residents with a focus on providing memory support. The therapy program is based on the Montessori principles.

The focus for all Wattle Crescent staff is to undertake meaningful activities with the residents that reflect the resident’s capabilities and interests and support them to feel valued and socially connected to all people with whom they come in contact. All rooms in Wattle Crescent are single rooms with an ensuite and a TV while the living area is communal and has access to a secure garden. To live in Wattle Crescent, residents require a diagnosis of dementia and the ability to mobilise independently.

Our memory support unit is recognised nationally and internationally as being innovative. We developed the ABLE model of care method to assess resident’s needs.
