Rural Northwest Health will replace worn and faded carpet at its Hopetoun Campus after being named as a receipt of Aged Care Capital Assistance Program funding totalling $55,000.
RNH recently replaced carpet with vinyl in all its aged care residential rooms, however, a significant amount of carpet remains in the higher foot traffic areas including the common areas, offices and corridors.
Due to heavy traffic in these areas, the carpet has become worn and faded making the identification of spills harder and, when a spill is detected, requiring the use of a noisy carpet cleaner which can be upsetting and unsettling for residents.
Further, residents with dementia and/or low vision may interpret the darker coloured carpet as a hole which can lead to anxiety.
RNH plans to replace the carpet with durable, commercial vinyl suited to high traffic areas and which is resistant to scratches.
Also meeting essential moisture resistance and non-slip requirements the vinyl will further improve the capacity of staff members to maintain a healthy and safe environment for residents and patients, increase the residents’ dignity, and will present a bright and clean appearance for prospective future residents.
