Our team got to experience the world through the eyes of a person living with Dementia via a training session utilising virtual reality (VR) last week.
Over the course of the training, Dementia Australia’s training helped our team to:
– Build empathy and understanding of Dementia
– Improve their care practices
– Develop safety practices for improving patients’ dining experiences
– Learn how to de-escalate high risk behaviour
– Build confidence, and;
– Reduce stress for people living with Dementia, their carers and families.
Aimed at safely developing skills and testing creative strategies without involving a real person living with Dementia, the use of VR provided our team with interactive scenarios where they could test new skills and strategies with a carefully researched and realistic virtual person.
