Team Outpatients are excited to have not one, not two, but three generations of the Decker family joining the relay this year.
Turning 15 this month, Axel Decker is now eligible to join the ride, and he jumped at the chance to ride alongside his mum, Kim, who is preparing for her third Murray to Moyne.
Having cheered on the team over the years, thanks to his granny Norma’s involvement, Axel has been enjoying the training rides getting used to not only the longer distances, but also his father Az’s bike, and will lead the team as they approach the finish line at Port Fairy.
For Kim, although she had always been an avid supporter, from cooking and helping out wherever needed, it was when Norma passed on her bike that she became part of the relay team, riding in 2022 and ’23 (the team did not ride in 2024).
Looking forward to hitting the road again, Kim is a busy mum of 5 who also coaches and plays netball and golf.
And Norma, well, Norma has been involved in Team Outpatients for what feels like a lifetime, having cheered on the team from their very first ride.
Signing up as support crew in 2011, a broken wrist delayed Norma’s ride until the following year, and she had also been the catering coordinator for many years prior.
Stunned to be named winner of the prestigious Graham Woodrup Memorial Award in 2022, Norma said she is proud to have been involved in raising money for so many years and, via working for RNH alongside Kim, gets to see the benefits the funds raised bring to the organisation.
As the team secretary, Norma has a big wish and that is to be able to raise funds for a power assisted bike to enable her to take the residents out and about.
Will you be cheering Team Outpatients on this year?
