Months of planning came to fruition on Saturday, when former Landt Hostel staff assembled for a reunion marking 35 years since the building opening in 1991.
The day started with RNH Wellbeing Officer Katrina Fallon giving the visitors a tour of the old building, sparking memories, anecdotes, and even a few tears, but overall impressing the crowd with the multitude of varied and vital services that are now offered within its hallowed walls.
Following afternoon tea, guests were given a tour of the main campus and the old Landt Home building where they learned of its current and potential future uses.
Dinner at Taylor’s Palace Hotel followed with all reminiscing over the original newsletter from the Hostel opening when it was read out by the author and first supervisor, Anne Madely.
Photos, memorabilia, clippings and cuttings were shared with much nostalgia and reminiscence, as were plenty of laughs with so many Warracknabeal historical stalwarts, whom the teams cared for during their years at the Hostel, remembered with fondness and smiles as they recalled so many of the funny and special moments they all shared as a “family” for so many years.
Landt was known as a “utopic workplace” and most staff, even to this day, say it’s the “best place they ever worked” – largely due to the small size of the team, the management, the commitment to the residents and the team’s genuine fondness for all that made it a wonderful place to work with wonderful memories.
Organisers thanked the RNH team for their assistance.
