Confirming its commitment to sustainability, Rural Northwest Health has significantly reduced its energy usage and carbon emissions over the past 12 months.
The largest reduction was in the organisation’s electricity usage, with 2024 recording a 79 MWh reduction, which Executive Manager Environmental Services David Siddall attributes to the installation of solar panels across the three campuses.
LPG was also down from 103 kilolitres in 2023 to 97 in 2024.
Pleasingly, these reductions have also equated to 1.44 thousand tonnes last year, to 1.28 for the current year; a reduction of .16 thousand tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
“In a recent energy audit, undertaken by the Victorian Heath Board Association, it was noted that Rural Northwest Health in collaboration with the facilities leadership and operations teams has demonstrated a commitment to energy efficiency, and emissions reductions,” David said.
“This was achieved through good maintenance practices, proactive installation of lighting timers and sensors, positive staff culture towards energy efficiency, and the significant adoption of renewable energy with the use of solar thermal hot water and rooftop solar PV arrays,” he said.
