Warracknabeal junior Environmental Services Assistant Cody Polack will ascend 28 floors of the Crown Metropol stairs in 25kg of CFA turnout gear and breathing apparatus when he competes in the Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb (MFSC) on September 6.
Entrants will climb the stairs weighed down by their gear as a symbol of the burden of the significant health and wellbeing challenges first responders, and their families, face on a daily basis.
Recently celebrating his 18th birthday, Cody is now eligible to compete in the challenge and chose to sign up after seeing many young individuals affected by negative mental health.
“Mental health is a big part of my life, so the stair climb is a way of supporting those struggling as the funds raised are used to fight against cancer, depression, and suicide,” Cody said.
Completing training including climbing the stairs of the local grandstand, alongside wearing his breathing apparatus as part of the regular CFA training nights, Cody easily smashed his initial fundraising target of $500….but would love to raise even more to contribute toward the MFSC target of $1 million.
All the best Cody!!
