55 people gathered in the Warracknabeal Planned Activity Group (PAG) room on Monday for the always-popular Big Morning Tea which this year raised $1000 for the Cancer Council, with donations still coming in.
Hosted by Wellbeing Coordinator Karen Miller for the third year, the morning featured a competition to guess the number of lollies in a jar – subsequently won by Lorraine Witney who guessed 99 (correct answer was 95) – along with the sale of jars of local honey, the proceeds from which were also donated to the Cancer Council.
Enjoying a wide spread of morning tea treats, the crowd were excited to catch up with friends over a cuppa, before RNH Dietitian Andre Woltersdorf took to the floor as guest speaker.
Briefly sharing his personal connection to cancer, Andre presented an informative discussion that included the role of Dietetics and Dietitians, the “what, how and why” of cancer and cancer treatment, the importance of food and nourishment during a cancer journey – including nutrition for pre -, during, and post-cancer treatment, and some common myths and barriers.
“Thank you to my helpers Anne, Sarah, Kat and Maddie,” Karen said.
“If anyone would like to donate to this worthy cause please reach out to me by the end of this week,” she said.
Anyone going though cancer, whether themselves or as a family member of someone experiencing cancer, is invited to join the Warracknabeal Cancer Support Group.
