Our Yarriambiack Lodge residents were treated to a unique site on Monday when Warracknabeal’s own Geoff Haebich visited on his customised gopher.
Featuring many carriages, Geoff is a renowned site in Warracknabeal when, in the early days of welcoming his grandchildren, he could be spotted trundling along the street on his gopher – adding a new carriage for each grandchild along with lights, flags, decorations and even a toy gorilla.
Sadly, the Easter parade will mark Geoff’s “last hurrah” as he retires his gopher train.
“It’s a sad time,” Geoff said, “but I have many happy memories and, to this day, not one of the grandkids has indicated that they want to stop having a go on my gopher”.
Visiting our residents accompanied by his faithful dog, Gemma, who has also peacefully ridden in the basket for 9.5 years, Geoff even took a few staff for a spin – to their delight.
