We love it when the generations come together and 2026 started on a high indeed when Yarriambiack Lodge resident Betty Krahe, volunteering for a shift in Jean’s Lolly Shop, had the pleasure of serving her great grandson, Louis.
Louis, who was visiting Betty with his family, including Betty’s grandson Cameron and Cam’s wife, Sarah, was intrigued to learn on a prior visit that Betty volunteered at the shop each week.
On January 1, Cam, Sarah, and Louis decided to surprise Betty with a visit and were delighted to see the shop open for business.
Unable to resist the chance to purchase a treat for Betty, it’s fair to say that all were surprised when who was serving at the counter but none other than Betty herself, who had generously stepped up to volunteer after the shop was left a volunteer short due to the public holiday – unaware that she had special guests on their way.
After Louis shouted his great grandma a bag of lollies, Betty was permitted to knock off to spend time with her guests, who were excited to see that it wasn’t just lollies available for the residents, but also other treats including soft drinks and ice creams.
Jean’s Shop is open 7 days a week from 2.15-2.45pm.
