Our Beulah PAG and Yarri Lodge residents have been enjoying the Olympics over the past week – fiercely contesting a number of sporting events.
At Beulah, traditional games including quoits, beanbag toss and hookey put our clients’ skills to the test.
Results: Beanbag toss: Gold: Jenny Fischer, Silver: Rex Brownhill, Bronze: Ian Wurfel. Quoits: Gold: Rex Brownhill, Silver: Gay Sanders, Bronze: Ian Wurfel. Hookey: Gold: Val Mann, Silver: Jenny Fischer, Bronze: Gay Sanders.
At Warracknabeal, the first week of the Yarri Olympics saw the residents and staff participate in one event per day.
Kicking off the competition were balloon tennis, golf, shotput, basketball, rhythmic gymnastics – ribbon twirling, cycling, and equestrian.
Leisure and Lifestyle Team Leader Bron McIntyre said each event was modified to meet the needs of the residents and our environment, including the use of cycling machines for the cycling event.
Rumour has it that the Yarri team had just as much fun as our residents, with the equestrian event – featuring pool noodle “horses” – a sight to behold and one which caused many giggles amongst the residents.
Well done to all who competed and to the winners.
