Victoria’s Acting Chief Health Officer Dr Christian McGrath has advised that there is an increasing risk of local transmission of mpox across the state.
The risk linked to international travel is ongoing as cases increase, with gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men most at risk of contracting the disease.
Anyone experiencing symptoms of mpox should seek medical care and testing.
Eligible people are advised to get vaccinated and, although there is still the risk of contracting mpox after vaccination, the severity is reduced.
Free vaccination is available for eligible people via sexual health clinics or their GP.
