ANZAC Day commemorations dawned crisp but calm across the Wimmera Mallee as the communities gathered to remember the fallen last week.
In Warracknabeal, Yarriambiack Lodge got the commemorations off to an early start on Wednesday, when the residents were joined by Country Kids Regional Care students for some craft, creating beautiful poppy vases that added a splash of vibrant colour to the residents’ home.
And on Thursday RNH CEO Jenni Masters, who is a passionate advocate for inclusion, recognition and (as a native New Zealander herself) diversity, attended a ceremony at Anzac Park, laying a wreath on behalf of the organisation.
At Hopetoun, St Joseph’s and Hopetoun P-12 College students made the day extra special with school captain Kiara O’Reilly and Grade 6 students Denim Schack and Ava Puckle delivering beautiful, strongly spoken messages as the guest speakers.
Resident Janey Ferguson and RNH staff member Kim Deckert laid wreaths and, with the ANZAC service certain to remain in the residents’ memories for many years to come, they were joined by family, friends, and RNH staff for an afternoon tea of ANZAC biscuits that were made by some of the residents.
Lest We Forget.
