Our Hopetoun residents and team enjoyed a special afternoon tea on Monday in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the first residents moving into Corrong Village.
Then-Supervisor Dulcie Ryan oversaw the April 14, 1975 move into the village which cost $200,000 to build; the majority of which came from local donations.
Welcoming 10 residents back then, the aged care facility saw many changes over its years before closing in 2008 following the amalgamation of services to become Rural Northwest Health.
Many of the dedicated, long-term staff who worked at the village, including Helen Robins, Jodie Malcolm, Norma Decker, Marilyn Clancy, Deb Glen and Junior and Tania Smith, recalled the good times they had.
In fact, Helen, Jodie and Norma started at the village on the same day…29 years ago.
