Urgent Care

Rural Northwest Health does not have a staffed emergency department, but we do have an urgent care centre. This means that we don’t have nurses and doctors dedicated to work solely in this department.

The staff from the acute ward in Warracknabeal and aged care in Hopetoun provide the necessary care to patients presenting to the urgent care centre who require emergency treatment, in consultation with the local GPs, nurse practitioners, and/or out-of-town specialists.

Our staff are able to stabilise patients and organise transfer to another facility or admission to the acute ward – whichever is the most appropriate.

All patients with minor ailments or conditions should seek an appointment with their GP rather than present to the urgent care centre. With no onsite doctor, people presenting with non-emergency presentations may experience lengthy waiting times.
