John has lived in Warracknabeal since 1987, when he and wife Marie moved from Melbourne to take over the Warracknabeal Amcal Pharmacy. John has worked in virtually every aspect of pharmacy from community and hospital pharmacy in Australia and the United Kingdom, at the Victorian College of Pharmacy while completing a masters research degree in pharmacology, and in industry in product development, drug registration and marketing for Sigma Pharmaceuticals.

For the last 30 years John has owned and worked in community pharmacies in Warracknabeal, Horsham, Birchip, and Dimboola. He has a deep understanding of the challenges that rural people face in managing their health care; and the important role that the local health service plays in maintaining community health.

More recently John has completed a PhD with La Trobe Rural Health School with the title: Sharing knowledge: community participation strategies for improving rural health. This project provided an insight into the impact of social determinants on rural health outcomes, and the importance of developing coproduced strategies to address community health issues.

John is proud to be on the Board of Rural Northwest Health, with its award-winning reputation as a small rural health service.
